Welcome to MousePages
by Sibyl McLendon

Well, this is our first issue to be done within the new schedule. It is taking some 'getting used to' for me, and I certainly hope that it is working well for you. I have gotten some positive feedback about the shorter format. One person said that it was the first time she had ever read the newsletter in its entirety, so that is encouraging.
I need to apologize to you all, and especially to Kim Newman, for making a mistake with her E-Mail address in the last issue! If any of you attempted to contact her about her wonderful aromatherapy article, I am
really sorry for the mistake. It is correct this time, and she would really like some feedback from you about her articles. Won't you take a moment and let her know what you think, or if there is any subject you would like her to cover? Also, she has a new web site, so please check it out. You won't be disappointed!
We are still car-less, and will be until the second week of February. I am really getting the hang of this, and if Tucson were not a city that was so hard to get from one end to the other of, I might consider getting rid of the thing! We really need a better bus system here, though. Tucson's magnificent annual gem and mineral show is about to start up here, and there is no way to get around it without wheels. We host the largest show in the world here! To me, it is better than Christmas, and if you know me at all, that is really saying something!
There is a very good article in here this month about staying in balance. Being 1/2 Navajo, this is a subject that is close to my soul. We believe that all illness stems from being out of balance with the universe.  Balance and harmony is so difficult to find and maintain in this crazy world. It is, however, the single most important thing for the well-being of our beings, spiritual, physical and mental. I encourage you to take some time to get in touch with yourself every day. It will be the best time you can spend!  I hope that you are all well and peaceful. Take care of yourself, and see you next week.

Strength
by Eagle Dancing

The strength card does not have anything to do with brute strength, or violence. What it does mean is the kind of strength that is known as inner strength. When this card is drawn, you have the courage of your
convictions. You are filled with faith and power and a firm resolve will enable you to win through any situation. If you have been involved in a dispute, or have experienced antagonism from others you will be able to
resolve things now.

Reversed
Courage has deserted you, you have lost your nerve and no longer believe that anything is possible. Fear and weakness are barriers to success. When this card represents a person, it signifies that he/she has given in,
taken the easy way out, and accepted defeat. Fear of what the future holds may be the motive; you are frozen with fear.

NATURALLY ACTIVE AROMATHERAPY
Refreshing Baths
Body products
By Kim Newman

Hello there again everyone. I hope that you have all had a stress free week!! If you have, then just pamper yourself with my 'recipes' for this week. If you are stressed then let the effective natural products help to
sooth your mind and body. After which you will feel pampered too!! We all lead very hectic lifestyles in all shapes and forms, be it at work or as homemakers caring for the house, budget and not forgetting those 'ankle biters' we know more commonly as children !!! Now that the weather will be causing havoc to our skin and we will be wrapping our bodies in woolies and layering our clothing, the skin on our bodies needs particular attention. My aim is to help you with this in the newsletter this week. I would like to add that if you have any questions or particular problems, feel free to e mail me at the address below. I will endeavour to help you in solving anything you need to find a solution to. I write this article each week for you so, if there is anything in particular you are interested in relating to Aromatherapy, contact me. I don't bite !! (Well rarely!!)

Bathing

Water has been worshipped as a source of life since time began and sea water is renowned for it's healing properties. It contains some 60 mineral salts and trace elements, most of which are essential to the human body.  The Dead Sea in Israel is renowned for it's therapeutic properties, as it the greatest concentration of all of these essential ingredients. We cannot all afford to visit Israel every week for treatments in the sea,
so, my first 'tip' as regards recreating these benefits is to buy a box of Sea Salt and add two tablespoons to the bath as the water is running. The coarse unrefined is best by far to use. Relax in the bath after the salt
has dissolved (otherwise sitting on coarse grains can be somewhat uncomfortable and detracts from the aims of the therapy!!!). If you have difficulty obtaining Sea Salt please contact me as here in Maldon, where I
live (in the UK); Sea Salt is'panned' and boxed for sale. This is the brand I use, even on my food. So, I am ingesting the essential properties of this enriched salt too!! I would recommend 20 minutes soaking in a bath
containing this. I call all time spent locked in the bathroom as my 'Me Time'. We all deserve this at least once a week, more often if at all possible. Every night would be marvellous if you can manage that. Also, you
can choose a 'recipe' to suit your requirements from those below and off you go................"Happy Soaking!!"

Relaxing Bath Soaks

To encourage a peaceful night or simply to unwind after a stressful situation, fill a muslin cloth (tied at the top after the chosen contents are added!!!)  The herbs with the most powerful sedative effects are:
Valerian, Lemon Balm, Marjoram, Lavender, Passion Flower. Hops have a good sedative effect BUT they are not one of the nicer smelling additives to the muslin bag so mix with other herbs !! One teaspoon is ample when added to 3-4 tablespoons of another herb or mixture.
Add cold Chamomile tea or 2 tea bags to a warm bath to help relax your muscles and delicately scent the skin. If you use the tea leaves please remember to strain the solution before adding it to the bath........unless you like small particles on your skin!! A mug of tea made using 2 teaspoons of the leaves will be ample. Leave to infuse in boiling water for 15 minutes before adding to a warm bath. Infuse the tea bags for the same amount of time. I would like to stress that bags or leaves are equally effective. I find the bags less hassle!!
For soothing strained or achy muscles use the following. Infuse in boiling water the following: 1tsp each of Lavender flowers, dried Sage, and chopped Bay leaves. Leave for 20 minutes in a mug. Strain then add to the solution to a pre-run bath.
To sooth skin and relax the mind, add 1tbspn Olive Oil or Peach Kernel Oil together with 6 drops of Frankincense and 2 drops of Chamomile Essential Oils to a warm bath.  Amongst the most relaxing Essential Oils are: Melissa, Lavender, Sandalwood and Bergamot. as they are broken down by heat and quickly lose
their potency always add to a pre-run bath. This way they lie on the surface of the water and as you step in, they coat your skin. Feeling relaxed already? Please don't fall asleep and miss the rest of the article!!

Invigorating Baths

To stimulate the circulation and aid the process of digestion of food add a Rosemary infusion to the bath. Place 50grms (2oz) of fresh Rosemary to 1 pint of boiling water (leave the stalks on). Leave to infuse for 15
minutes before pouring into the pre-run bath water.  Adding Peppermint Oil to a cool bath is a traditional way of 'pepping' up the body and mind. You can also put dried peppermint or fresh leaves into a piece of muslin cloth or....a cotton sock!! (clean please!!), socks can be used to hold all herbs as a substitute for muslin, we all have a sock in the home, usually one which has mysteriously 'lost' it's mate!! Tie the top with string or sewing cotton. (I like to do everything as cheaply as possible!!) Add to the bath as the water is running. You can also utilize left over Peppermint tea (or tea bags). It is also possible and beneficial to use freshly chopped leaves and flowers from the plant itself. Mint grows like wildfire in gardens and it would be economical for you to purchase a plant. BEWARE....plant it in pots as it will soon take over your garden otherwise!! The kind we use to flavour potatoes and peas etc is fine for this use. Applemint has a distinctive, sweeter aroma to the
better known Peppermint. Milder for those who do not like the 'whiff' of Peppermint!!

Moisturizing Baths

Take a tip from Cleopatra and her ass's milk (no I am not referring to her butt!!) by adding 2 tblsp of dried milk powder or granules to the running water of a bath. Lie back and expect the bunch of grapes to be fed to
you!! It is the Milk Whey Proteins which soften and refine the skin. Soak in the bath for 15-20 minutes and you will really feel the difference in the texture of your skin. This is of great benefit to sufferers of skin
complaints such as Eczema and Psoriasis. Mild enough for babies and young children to use too.  Make muslin sachets in the way mentioned above filled with Oatmeal and place in the bath whilst the water is still running. Also, use the sachet to gently exfoliate the skin on your body after soaking in the bath for 5 minutes. Removing dead skin cells brightens and refines the skin.  Concentrate on areas such as hips and thighs, elbows, knees, heels and the soles of your feet, upper arms too.  Add 2 tsp Olive Oil to the bath water just before stepping in. Sunflower Oil can be used as an alternative. This leaves the skin feeling silky soft. Take care when stepping in and out as the sides of the bath can be quite slippery. Ooops, told you so!!
Dry sensitive skin is often caused when the skins natural pH balance is disrupted. Usually caused by the use of soap (which is banned in my house!!) Unless it is detergent free and contains at least 20% Shea Butter
(obtained from the nut of the Macadamia tree in Africa). This is called 'Woman's Gold', as only women are allowed to harvest and extract the butter. They also earn from doing this. Usually their only form of income.
(Contact me for sources of this soap). Add 15mls Cider Vinegar to restore the correct acid/Alkaline balance. It is also worth adding a splash of Aloe Vera juice to calm skin irritations. Please don't get me talking about Aloe Vera as I would be here for 24 hours!!!!! I will have to devote a complete article to Aloe Vera for a future Newsletter, it has a multitude of uses. If you can, buy an Aloe Vera plant ready for the article as when you read it you will have a use for it immediately!!  Please do not go to the expense of buying the gel form in silly little tubes!!. The plant reproduces itself and you can pot on the 'babies!!

************
I hope that you have enjoyed this article and enjoy trying the 'recipes' I am sharing with you. I can assure you that they all work. However, they do not work by simply reading them!! Why not print out this newsletter so
that you have a record of these Naturally Active Bathing 'recipes'. We all delete' e mails and you may well be annoyed with yourself for losing things you might wish to refer to in the future!!  Please do not hesitate to contact me at the e mail address below.

The Power of Music
Imagine
by John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Getting Out Of Balance
by Donald E. Wetmore

The underlying core of my more than 2,000 Time Management presentations during the last twenty years has been the concept of "balance." Success in managing our time has less to do with the tools available to us, such as "to do lists" and techniques for delegation, as it has to do with achieving daily balance in our lives. If we are not in balance to begin with, we are likely to sabotage our success. Successful Time Management, then, has a lot to dowith what we are not doing.

Here's my list of the seven best ways to "Get Out of Balance."

1. Ignore your Health.

Don't get the quantity and quality of sleep you require. Don't take time for exercise. Eat the wrong stuff.
(90% of those who join Health and Fitness Clubs today will stop going within the next 90 days.) Your
resistance level will be reduced and you will be susceptible to all the latest sniffles and flues going around to ensure that you take advantage of all the sick days you are allowed. Seventy five percent of all adult deaths are preventable. We are literally driving ourselves to early graves in these "hurry-up, stressful" lives of ours.
It's interesting that when someone gets a new car, they bring it in for the scheduled maintenance, put the right
grade of fuel in the tank, and keep it shiny and clean. Our pets visit the veterinarian on a scheduled basis.
In a recent study, 34% of the men surveyed said they would not go to the doctor even if they were experiencing chest pains.

2. Postpone Family time.

They will always be there for you anyway when you get the time for them. A student once asked me, "what is the best way to take my four year old on vacation?" I replied, "You take her when she's four years old." Fifty percent of marriages wind up in divorce court.  Imagine, getting married at age twenty-five and twenty years
later, at age forty-five, you give up 50% of everything you have worked for in your adult life in a property settlement in divorce court. It's like the squirrel, gathering the nuts, hoarding away while someone is drilling a hole in the side of the tree to let all the nuts escape. The squirrel is too busy to hear the impending threat. The average working person spends less than two minutes per day in meaningful communication with their spouse or "significant other" and less than thirty seconds per day in meaningful communication with their children.

3. Don't plan your financial life.

Be assured that your employer, and if not, then the government, and if not, then maybe a kindly relative
will take care of your needs. Most people arrive at the end of life financially deficient or dependent
upon some type of assistance from the government or relatives. Most people do not spend a little of their
time, on a regular basis, to create financial freedom and live their lives they way they "want to", but rather do what do because they "have to". Eighty percent do not want to go to work on Monday morning. Ninety-seven percent say that if they did achieve financial freedom, they would not continue with their current employer or in their current line ofwork.

4. Stay away from intellectual development.

You have the degree. You read books at one time. Five percent of the population purchases ninety-five percent of all the books. The other ninety-five purchase the other five percent of the books. They don't have time to read them. They give them away as gifts. You barely have enough time to keep your head above water, what with work and other interests. Coast with the knowledge you have. It's draining away from you daily, but hopefully you filled the reservoir enough early on that it will carry you through your life.

5. Let your social contacts decide your future.

Follow the advice of your friends about what you should be doing in your life even if they are not in a place where you would want to be. Be ever conscious of "What would my friends say/think if I did . . . ?" Always seek out and act only with the approval of your peers. Take comfort in the knowledge that when there is a void in leadership in your life on how you should be spending your time, someone else will fill that void and tell you what to do.

6. Let your professional life just happen.

Do not establish a lifetime plan of where you want to go. Take whatever opportunity and advancement life gives you and be satisfied. Don't rock the boat. Seek the familiar and avoid the strange. Play it safe. Make it comfortable. If you chose a career path when you were eighteen or twenty years old, and now at age forty you are unhappy, don't consider a change. Hold on to that decision you made twenty years ago. It will be like going to a twenty year old for career counseling.

7. Avoid spending time in your spiritual area.

Not only in a formal religious venue, but also in our relationships to others, our community, our environment,
and the universe. Leave those questions to others to ponder. "When man forgets his Creator, his own creations will turn upon him."
