Welcome
by Sibyl McLendon

Welcome! First and foremost, I want to apologize for all the troubles last Monday. I have abandoned Listbot, and I am hopeful that Tropica will prove to be a better way to get this out. I can not express the frustration that I went through trying to get this thing to you last week, and I am deeply sorry for 'spamming' your mailbox!  Well, I am writing this PRE Super Bowl, but you will read this POST Super Bowl. If you care, I hope your team won. If you don't, then let me say "Hallelujah" that it is over, and I don't have to watch all the
hype anymore. My team never even makes it to the playoffs, so I am destined for disappointment every year. Serves me right, for being a Seahawk's fan...
Hope you enjoy this week's installment.

Nature's Skincare
THE AROMATIC SHOWER
by Kim Newman

Using essential oils under the shower is not quite as therapeutic as using them in the bath. Since the water is always running, a lot of the aroma and oil goes down the plug hole!! It is best to use aromatic showers to wake up your mind and body, because it is quite difficult to relax deeply when you are standing up!! The best way to avoid wasting essential oils in the shower is to mix them first with a carrier oil, then massage them into the skin before you get under the spray. Or, you can dip a sponge into the mixture and rub it over your body whilst in the shower. If you have a deep base to your shower, you can make it more aromatic by blocking up the plug hole, so that the oils vaporize in the warm water in the bottom. The aroma will then rise with the steam. A choice of carrier oils with which to mix your essential oils are available but, I would recommend the following:

Almond Oil. Grapeseed Oil. Sweet Almond Oil.

To each 100mls of carrier oil I would add the following amount of Essential Oils:

Basil = 5 drops.
Bergamot = 5 drops.
Lemongrass = 5 drops.
Lime = 4 drops.
Mandarin = 4 drops.
Orange = 4 drops.
Peppermint = 5 drops.
Pine = 5 drops.

These oils are all invigorating and quick acting and that is the reason that I have chosen them for use in the shower. They are ideal as a 'wake-up' in the morning. Also as a refresher after a long day at work and you are perhaps going out for the evening. Please note that the more pungent citrus oils need less drops added to the carrier oil. Citrus oils are ideal for use in the shower as their beneficial properties are not as long lasting as other oils. When mixed with other oils such as Geranium, rose or Jasmine, their properties are prolonged. These three oils, when used in conjunction with the citrus oils, give a calming influence on you. The benefit of this being that you are 'soothingly invigorated'!! The choice is yours....

I have researched oils to use in the shower as more and more homes do not have bath tubs these days and people sometimes prefer to shower but would still like to benefit from the wonderful properties of Essential
Oils. The vast majority of us prefer to take a quick shower in the morning as what I like to term a 'wake-up call'!!!

Once again, I would like to take the opportunity to invite you to e mail me with any queries or requests. I would even appreciate some 'feedback' about what you think of my articles. Remember that I write this for
you!!! I am open to negative responses too!!

Rhodonite
by Sibyl McLendon

Rhodonite is a beautiful pink stone with black matrix in it. It is popular for jewelry pieces. Usually, pink stones are good for emotional healing, and black stones are good for grounding. Rhodonite is the perfect mix of these energies. It is excellent for clearing out the past, letting go of old hurts and emotional injuries, while gently
grounding us in the here and now. It helps you to look towards the future without being adversely influenced by the past.

Rhodonite is also useful if you are the type of person who has a lot of love to give, but are not too good at deciding who you should be giving that love to. In other words, are you choosing the wrong people to let
into your life, over and over? It can be friends or lovers. Get yourself some rhodonite and carry it with you all the time. Then, trust your gut instincts. Many a person has gotten into a mess because they did not pay attention to that little inner voice telling them that they were not using good judgment.

I am including a couple of links to pages with pictures of rhodonite, in case you are not familiar with this stone. Please take note: these are links to commercial sites. I am NOT endorsing any businesses! It is very difficult to find good photos of stones on the internet that are not on sites that are selling stuff. I have only chosen these for the quality of the photo:

Leap… And The Net Will Appear
By Sibyl McLendon

In 1994, my life hit rock bottom. My husband was addicted to crack cocaine, my 17 year-old son had just gotten his 15 year-old girlfriend pregnant, we were about to get evicted from our home, I contracted a
life-threatening illness with no health insurance and my Mother died very suddenly, and as her only child, the responsibility of this fell solely on me. My emotional hole was so deep, I could not even imagine the light at the end of the tunnel, let alone see it.

Two years later, my husband was free of addiction, I was running a business that was quite successful, I was healthy and had a beautiful Grandson that I loved deeply. Today, my husband is still drug free, my business has evolved to the point that we can work at home, my Grandson is still (and always will be) the light of my life, and I can honestly say that life is good.

It was a difficult path back into the light. Certainly, my life is far from trouble free now. But I learned one invaluable lesson during the dark time that keeps me from falling back into the abyss, no matter what the Universe throws at me today: faith. And really, faith in “what” is not the issue. It is simply faith in something. It could be faith in the Creator, angels, the Universe, yourself, electricity, or even a rock. It really doesn't matter. It is the act of having faith that makes the difference. Someone once told me that even an atheist has faith that when he flips the wall switch, the light will come on.

Along the way, I saw a Zen saying, “Leap… and the net will appear.” It became my battle cry, my philosophy of life. Take a chance, give something a try, at least you are doing something. It is one step towards taking control of your life. Find a goal, even a little one, and then do one thing towards reaching it. It may be scary, but a little fear gets the adrenaline pumping. The rewards can be immense. Your self-esteem will benefit greatly. If you succeed, even in a small way, you can say, “Look what I did!” Believe me, it feels great.

Having faith means that you are able to take a chance on something. Taking chances, even small ones, leads to opportunity. Even if you take a chance and fail, you have learned something through the experience. I know one thing for sure, if you stay in your house, waiting for something to happen in your life, you will die in your house, waiting for something to happen. You do not have to take a leap of faith, just take one step in faith; in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole
staircase, just take the first step.” I am reminded here of a scene from a movie. Towards the end of the third Indiana Jones movie (Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom), Indiana must cross an abyss to reach the
Holy Grail. There appears to be no bridge, no way across, only a long fall to certain death. He takes the step anyway, and a bridge just appears out of nowhere. He took the step in faith that he would not fall. That is exactly what I am talking about here. We all have the ability to look inside of ourselves and find our faith in something or someone. Find it, and take that chance, the reward will outweigh the cost.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with the one step. The first step is to put your shoes on and leave the house--Sibyl

The Power of Music

This week's song is one that is especially dear to my heart. It reflects a philosophy that I have carried with me for years: that the Creator knows best. Every time we try to run the show, it has the potential to get messy. When we 'let go, and let God' things always work out. There have been many times in my life when I prayed hard for something that I did not get. After some time had passed, and I could look back with some perspective, I could always see why things worked out the way that they did, and how lucky I was that my prayer was NOT answered! And so, I give you...

Unanswered Prayers
( written by Pat Alger, Larry B. Bastain, Garth Brooks)

Just the other night at a hometown football game
My wife and I ran into my old high school flame
And as I introduced them the past came back to me
And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be

She was the one that I'd wanted for all times
And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine
And if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back then
I'd never ask for anything again

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean that he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

She wasn't quite the angel that I remembered in my dreams
And I could tell that time had changed me
In her eyes too it seemed
We tried to talk about the old days
There wasn't much we could recall
I guess the Lord knows what he's doin' after all

And as she walked away and I looked at my wife
And then and there I thanked the good Lord
For the gifts in my life
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers

Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

Some of God's greatest gifts are all too often unanswered...
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
