Welcome Letter
by Sibyl McLendon

Happy Valentine's Day!   This week's issue is mostly about love. The power, the mystery; we are as happy as we can be, we hurt more than we thought possible; we are in search of it, we have it, we lost it, we
threw it away. I think that everything that could possibly be written on the subject has been, the trick is to find it! I struggled a lot with this week's song for the power of music. In the end, I rejected all the songs about sexual love, love lasting forever and love lost. I chose the song I did because it reflects, to me anyway, the most important love of all: the love we feel for ourselves. Sounds selfish? Not in my opinion. How can your really love another if you do not value yourself? It is a lack of self-love that leads us to choosing bad partners, it keeps us from really being all that we can be. And when you are the very best you that is possible, then you give the object of your affections a true gift!
I hope that your valentine's day is everything that you hope it will be. May your life be filled with love.

Herkimer
by Sibyl McLendon

I chose herkimer (also called herkimer diamonds) for this week's topic because I know that a lot of people have never heard of it. It is not rare, but it does not get a lot of attention. This is a shame, because herkimers are wonderful. They can be pricey, I will explain why in a bit. With some work, you may be able to find some that are not too expensive in your area, or on the internet. If you decide you simply have to have one and can't find anything you can afford, contact me. I can probably help.

Now, herkimers are a very specialized form of quartz crystal. They are found in only 2 areas in the world. The primary source of herkimers is in upstate New York, in Herkimer County. I really don't know if the
stone was named for the county or it was the other way around! They are also found to a lesser degree in Alaska. The reason that they are only found in these 2 places is because it takes a very specific area for
them to form. They grow inside pockets in cliffs that are (or were at some time) under the ocean. They formed from the silica in the salt water. They get their unique shape from the pockets they form in.

Herkimers are usually fairly small (around 1-2 inches long), rarely they can grow fairly large (up to a foot long). They are, by definition, always double terminated. This means that they have points on both ends.
If they don't, it is because of the difficulty in getting them out of the matrix (rock) that they have formed in. They tend to be quite fat in the middle, and they are almost always unbelievably clear. They are like looking into cut and polished glass (or diamonds, which is why some people call them herkimer diamonds)!
Herkimers are difficult to get at, because of where they grow, and the difficulty in getting them out of the rock without breaking them. This is why they are expensive. If you go to Herkimer, New York, you can pay
to dig your own. You had better be in good shape! There is a lot of climbing involved.

Energetically, herkimers are wonderful. They can do anything a regular quartz crystal can do, but better and faster. They have a very high energy rate, and the double terminations make them very effective because the energy can flow smoothly. They are great to use during meditations. They can clear, store information, and heal. My husband Bobby uses a herkimer for healing a great deal of the time. He has a herkimer pendulum that he uses a lot for healing. Almost all of the people he has used it on have reported feeling the energy flowing through them from it. It can be very powerful.

Herkimers very often have inclusions of hemitite in them. This helps to ground all that energy so it won't overwhelm you. Really, don't be surprised if the hemitite grows over time. Stones and crystals can and will continue to grow and change if they are in a positive environment. That is another article for another time.
I am including a link to a page of pictures of herkimers. (Here is my usual disclaimer) I do NOT recommend any site here! I only do my search for the photo, not for the site's content. Now be sure and click on all the picture links , there are lots of great photos.

Put the Power Back into Valentine's Day: The Power of Love.

By Marty Varnadoe Dow, LCSW

"In a world filled with stress and meaningless activities, do we need another holiday of all fluff and no stuff? I don't think so."

Instead of mindlessly sending out cards or buying gifts, why don't you use this Valentine's Day as an opportunity to broaden your understanding of love and its power? If it is true that "what the world needs now is love, sweet love," why not put this dynamic power back into our most popular day of love.

People all over the world are learning that love is not just an emotion or a sentiment. Love is the most powerful force in the world. If you know how to use it, you can send it to heal and transform even the most
difficult situations.

I am willing to make such bold statements about the power of love because I have seen it work for so many people. I don't blame you for thinking that this sounds too simplistic. That is exactly what I thought when I first learned how to use the spiritual force of love in my life. However, I have seen love work over and over again in my life and the lives of people with whom I have shared this great secret. The following story is a wonderful example of how love can heal and restore relationships.

Several years ago I shared the power of love with some of my co-workers. As usual I suggested that they experiment with the technique for 2 weeks.

One day, after a staff meeting, Tom pulled me aside. He was so excited about the amazing results of his test he could hardly tell me the story.

Apparently, Tom choose to work on an important friendship that had gone bad. He was saddened by the fact that he had not spoken to his old friend for over ten years. As is often the case, the conflict that seemed so important at the time, now felt silly.

Ten years is a long time to waste, but Tom did not know how to reconnect. After hearing my claims about the power of love to positively transform any relationship, Tom decided that his broken friendship was the perfect test.

He followed the instructions everyday for two weeks. During that time he did not try to contact his friend, but to his utter surprise, on the fourteenth day of the test, he received a warm unsolicited letter from his friend. He did not know how such a simple exercise could be so powerful, but he vowed to apply the technique to other areas of his life.

Why not use this Valentine's Day as a day devoted to healing and restoring the relationships in your life? The process is simple. Just follow the below instructions. Do the exercise twice a day for two weeks. Expect to see positive results. You will not be disappointed!

Choose a relationship you would like to see improved.
Sit with your eyes closed.
Take a moment to relax.
Let yourself think about the relationship you would like to transform now.
Picture the person involved in this relationship in your mind's eye. It does not matter if you can see an image. A thought is as powerful as an image.
Imagine them surrounded with light and love (you might see this as a pink blanket of light surrounding them, caressing them with love).
See the two of you interacting with one another in a way you would like.

Imagine both of you saying or doing something positive.
See the two of you smiling at one another.
Feel a positive emotion like joy as you watch this image.
Imagine yourself telling your best friend about how well this experiment worked.
See yourself joyfully celebrating the transformation of this relationship/situation.
Feel joy.
Let the image go.
Repeat everyday for two weeks.
If, through out your day, you find yourself mentally rehearsing the conflict, remind yourself that love works and see the relationship in a positive way.

AROMATHERAPY
FOOTCARE
by Kim Newman

Hello there everyone. I hope that the weather is better where you are than here in the UK !! My town was cut off totally by floods last Thursday and further to the north where my parents live there are 20 foot

snow drifts...yes I did say 20 foot drifts not 2 foot !!!

Speaking of feet!! They are the topic of my article this week. We will all have had them entombed in shoes during the dreadful weather, be it out in the open air walking or at work with shoes on and walking all day. Though our feet tend to be neglected most of the time they tolerate so much abuse from us. We might complain that they ache but, what do we do to rectify this? Rub them usually after removing shoes and that is it !!! Our feet have to work very hard indeed, they carry us around all day. The skin becomes hard and can become chapped on the soles. This can split and bleed, very painful indeed. During the Winter months our feet can go for days without having enough 'fresh air'. So, go on kick off those shoes and sooth away the blues !!!!!

The following recipes are easy to make and are well worth incorporating in your regular beauty routine. Not only do they make your feet look more attractive, but they also help to prevent more serious disorders
from developing in the future.

HOT OIL SMOOTHER.

1/4oz Beeswax pieces.
4tbsp Almond Oil.
5 drops Lavender Essential Oil.
10 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil.
Pair of cotton socks.

*******

This is an excellent overnight intensive treatment for re-moisturizing hard skin on the feet. The hot oil rapidly absorbs into the upper layers of the skin and is sealed in with cotton socks. This encourages our natural body heat to boost penetration of the oil even further.

1. Warm the Almond Oil in a saucepan, add the Wheatgerm Oil and Lavender
Essential Oil. Remove from the heat.

2. Apply liberally to clean feet, massaging well into the skin before covering with the cotton socks. Leave overnight and the next morning the skin will feel fabulously soft and smooth.

ATHLETE'S FOOT BATH

1 small onion.
1 clove of garlic.
1/2inch fresh ginger root
1oz dried sage.
1oz dried rosemary.
6 pints of hot water.
20 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil.

*************

This footbath treats fungal infections of the foot and is also invigorating for feet that are sore and tired from strenuous exercise such as step aerobics, running or skiing.

1. Chop the onion and garlic and finely grate the ginger root. In a large saucepan, make a herbal infusion by adding the onion, garlic ginger root and herbs to the hot water.

2. Gently simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to cool for 10 minutes, this will allow all of the beneficial properties to be infused. Strain the liquid. Allow to cool a little more.

3. Add the Tea Tree Essential Oil and pour in to a large bowl. Soak the feet for 20 minutes, cover your feet in the bowl with a towel to keep any warmth in the bowl.

4. Pat every part of the feet dry, especially between the toes!!!!! Finish with a light dusting of a medicated talcum powder or arrowroot that has been infused with the scent from a few Juniper Berries.

HARD SKIN REMOVER.

2oz cocoa butter.
2oz polenta or cornmeal.
1oz fullers earth.
10 drops of Mandarin or Lemon Essential Oils.

This treatment is ideal for buffing away calluses that have formed on the feet. Can also be used on pimply areas on the hands and elbows.

1. Melt the cocoa butter gently in a small pan. Remove from the heat and add the polenta and fullers earth stirring well. This will form a paste. Beat in the essential oil.

2. Massage into areas of rough skin on the feet and can be used on the elbows and knees too if you have a problem there. Use firm circular movements to help shift calluses and leave the skin feeling silky smooth. Wipe away excess creamy paste with a warm damp cloth. Follow with a moisturizer of your choice or some of the hot oil smoother but use it sparingly unless applying before bed and putting on your sexy socks !!!!!!!!!

Well folks that is all for this week. I think that there are enough recipes for you to be going on with!! Are you being good and printing out these newsletters for future reference?!!! I shall be asking questions later so remember your homework!!

I would like to thank Betty for her e mail after the last article I wrote. It was very much appreciated and I was thrilled to discover that my recipes are in fact helping people..........well 1 person anyway!! Come on you lot, e mail me, I have very broad shoulders and can take criticism........as well as praise!!

Why not tell me about your skin type and maybe I can help you. If you have a well behaved skin, you will be very surprised at how much better it can look with the recipes containing ingredients that are a gift from
Mother Nature!!

OK, OK, I get the message..........shut up Kim !!!

Bye to all until next time!!

LOVE
by Dean F. Mapa

Ahhh...love. What an emotion! It's been written about, analyzed and made into countless movies. Yet it remains one of man's enduring mysteries. It makes us laugh, it makes us cry. It starts wars, it brings peace. It
gives us goose bumps, it makes us numb. It makes us wax eloquent, it makes us stutter like crazy. It makes us do incredible feats, it makes us commit stupid mistakes. Who can know it? Who can tame it? It remains a powerful force in our life. It is the most joyful of experiences, but it can bring the most pain. Yet we need not allow it to overwhelm us. We simply must flow with it.
Flow with its feelings. Be alive with it. Be a fool, who cares? Shout it out, grin with a silly grin. Embrace everyone or everything. Let all know you're in love and don't bother with what they say. Never suppress
it. Never condemn it. And when you're hurt by it, let it loose as well. Cry, sob, holler, who cares? Look for someone who will listen and pour yourself out. If she's not listening, pour yourself out anyway. If there's no one to listen, still pour it out. It's actually good therapy. Never suppress it. Never condemn it.
When you've released it, take a break. Have fun by yourself for a while. But don't be afraid when the next wave comes along. Flow with it. Don't try to be an expert. No one's an expert in love. There are no winners
nor losers. There is no conqueror nor conquered. There are certainly no victims. There is just love. It's one of those unexplainable energies that can make us a better or worse person. It's really up to us. Flow with it.

The Power Of Music

Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot

When you´re down and they´re counting,
when your secrets all found out,
when your troubles take to mounting,
when the map you have leads you to doubt.
When there´s no information
and the compass turns to nowhere that you know well:
let your soul be your pilot,
let your soul guide you,
he´ll guide you well.

When the doctors failed to heal you,
when no medicine chest can make you well,
when no counsel leads to comfort,
when there are no more lies they can tell.
No more useless information and the compass spins,
the compass spind between heaven and hell:
let your soul be your pilot,
let your soul guide you,
he´ll guide you well.

And your eyes turn towards the window pane
to the lights upon the hill.
The distance seems to strange to you now
and the dark room seems to still.

Let your pain be my sorrow,
let your tears be my tears too.
Let your courage be my model,
that the north you find will be true.
When there´s no more useless information
and the compass turns to nowhere that you know well:
Let your soul be your pilot,
let your soul guide you, let your soul guide you,
let your soul guide you upon your way.
