About Citrine
By Sibyl McLendon
Citrine is a lovely yellow gemstone, very similar in appearance to Topaz.
It is molecularly similar to Quartz, but has had iron hydrates suspended in it during formation. The iron hydrates give it its yellow
color.
Citrine is a soothing stone, and yellow is the color associated with the intellect. Citrine can enhance your thinking, helping to make it more
orderly and productive (and who couldn't use a little more of that?). It is a good stone to have on your desk. Experiencing writer's block? Hold
a piece of Citrine. Relax, stare in to it, and the words should come.
Citrine can help conduct your creative thoughts outward and into reality.
For some very good photos of citrine, go to http://www.enchantedrocks.com/RockShop/enter.html?target=Minerals_and_Rocks__over_40_typesCitrine.html
It is slow-loading but well worth the
wait. I am NOT endorsing any commercial site! This was chosen
strictly for the photo quality.
In terms of astrology, Citrine is associated with Virgo (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22).
In terms of the Chakras, Citrine is associated with the third eye Chakra.
It is sometimes used to replace Topaz as the birthstone for November.
The High Priestess
by Eagle Dancing (Bobby McLendon)
This month, we are discussing the High Priestess. As shown in the Ryder-Waite deck, she sits on a throne with a scroll in her right hand.
She wears a blue gown that ends as a waterfall with a crescent moon at the bottom of it. She wears a crown with a large pearl in the center of it.
On her right side is a black column with a white letter "B" on it. On her left is a white column with the black letter "J" on it.
The High Priestess tells you to be aware of your own psychic abilities.
Trust your intuition and go with your gut instincts. Don't be afraid of your female side, if you are male. Your female side is where psychic
abilities come from.
To me, the High Priestess can represent a loved one who is in Spirit that comes to you when needed. She encourages you to go within for the
solution to your problems, using your own heightened awareness. Sometimes the High Priestess can be thought of as a witch.
In the reversed position, the High Priestess means a lack of self confidence, and not listening to your inner voice. It can sometimes
stand for a person whose Mother is deceased. If you are having problems in your
life, there is a good chance that a woman is at the root of these problems. It can also mean you are not heeding good advice.

Little Miracles
by Dean F. Mapa
It doesn't matter of what religious persuasion you are or if you have any
at all. Little miracles sensitize us to the divine within and around us.
The divine. Call him, her, it, whatever you want, it is that which is higher than us; that which brings out from us the highest ideal, the
greatest potential, the deepest feelings; that which brings us to the path of success in whatever endeavor we choose to pursue.
Dwell on the following:
~Little miracles are what you make them out to be~
It could be anything --sunlight peeking from grey clouds; a cobweb glistening with dew; a toddler's first steps; a finished project; a
co-worker's helping hand. When you deem something (or even someone) to be a miracle, you begin to attune with the divine.
~Little miracles happen all the time~
You don't need to go to exotic places or be awake at a certain time to see a miracle. Just as the examples above suggest, little miracles happen all
around you. To open our senses to them is to train ourselves to perceive what isn't readily seen and this is the key to seeing opportunities as
they arise. There is no lack of opportunities, just an inability to see them.
~Little miracles bring out the best in us~
They're inspirations that come in small doses. Inspirations spur us on.
They are the wings that make us soar. They bring us out of the mundane and make us see beyond the horizon. And what is divinity but to see beyond?
~Little miracles raise our consciousness~
Oftentimes we are unconsciously myopic, only seeing our present circumstances or our little corner of the world. Little miracles tell us
that there are energies at work beyond our space and time. To ride on the waves of these energies is to exert less of our own efforts and enjoy life
as we live it. It begins with the ability to see little miracles.
And you, my dear reader, are a miracle. Believe that and you open yourself to immeasurable possibilities!
Natural Healing for Diabetes
by Gayle Eversole, RN, PhD, AHG

From a talk given at the Indian Health Service Hospital,
Browning, on
May 1, 1998.
Natural Healing is the oldest medicine known. It has been traced to cave paintings that have existed as long as 18,000 years.
Historically natural healing is known to be a part of every culture. Most of the
history and use of herbs in North America, and the development of the medical system, comes from the ancient and old ways of tribal people.
Part of natural healing includes the use of herbs, which I call First Medicine.
Natural healing is based on the concept that the body can heal itself, given the right environment. The human body, and all of our brothers
and sisters in the animal kingdom, is endowed with the knowledge of self-healing. As the wonderful Dr. John R. Christopher taught us, "there
are no incurable diseases, only incurable people." Healing is physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Without all of these four directions
included in your healing, nothing will occur. In my work I can not do what I do without the help of the Creator. And so it is for
us all.
In the old times tribal people, especially of the plains, were known to have a physiological state for survival, which may have been related to
the nomadic life. This state was in some ways similar to what is called "ketosis" in diabetes mellitus.
This changed with the development of the reservation system, and the traditional diet. White flour, white sugar (and now artificial
sweeteners), processed salt, processed foods, high fat and overcooked foods, and excessive red meat lead to poor health and bring on chronic
diseases of many kinds, especially diabetes.
I have, with the help of information from Ivan MacDonald and LSBC, found
that at least 25% of the people of the Blackfoot are known diabetics. Diabetes has a high incidence on all reservations, and now in the
general population.
At the Pima Reservation in Arizona the incidence of diabetes is 50%. David Christopher, a Master Herbalist in Utah, provided me with this
information. He believes, as I do, that this is directly related to the government food program, and nutrient poor diets in general.
Diabetes is called the silent epidemic. It is the most common dis-order of the endocrine system (glands) known today. It effects your whole
body!
The pancreas is the main gland involved in diabetes. It is located behind the stomach and it secretes digestive enzymes and insulin, as
well as helping with energy storage of glucagon, secreted by alpha cells, in the liver.
The pancreas is one part of a whole system which includes the pituitary gland in your head (Master Gland), the thyroid gland located in your
throat (helps with metabolism and calcium), the thymus (sits behind the chest bone - acts with the immune and lymph systems), the adrenal glands
(located on top of each kidney and helps with stress and the production of corticosteroids), the ovaries in women and testes in men (producers
of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone).
The pancreas has several functions. It is directly connected with the pituitary gland through hormonal secretion. The vagus nerve from the
brain directly connects to the pancreas too. The pancreas is most often thought of as the gland that secretes insulin and digestive
enzymes. It works in conjunction with the liver (by helping to regulate hormones and
manufacture enzymes). It works with the adrenal glands in stress related situations.
Juvenile diabetes (Type 1) is an insulin dependent form of diabetes brought about because the beta cells of the pancreas fail to manufacture
and secrete insulin. It is considered by some to be an auto-immune dysfunction. It is my opinion that there is a correlation between the
development of Type 1 diabetes and immunizations in infants and young children.
Both Type 1 and Type 2 (adult onset) diabetes can be treated effectively with natural healing. Other types of diabetes are related to stress of
pregnancy, surgery, alcoholism, and various chronic conditions.
Approximately 10 million people have diabetes and the numbers are rising.
